Let the Waiting Begin.... As of Wendnesday, the first semester of law school is in the past. I can't complain, yet, and Monday morning quarterbacking will just get the nerves up. I waited in the lecture hall after the exams on purpose just so I could avoid the conversations about whether proximate cause was the main issue of question 2 in my Torts I exam, or whether the client in the Contracts I exam would have to pay for the expensive software that was purchased by the business partner. And the multiple choice questions in the Torts I Exam were the toughest Multiple choice questions I have ever seen in my life. (Anybody taking the multistate should be warned. My prof. Mentioned how he is sharing his question writing skills with the authors of the multistate exam!). As much as I would like to have straight A's, I have come to the realization that survival is the name of the game of the first semester of law school. As with anything in life, some people will pick up on ideas and concepts faster than others. I tend to take my time to really understand new concepts, when all I really need to understand the material is a superficial understanding, of the concepts and a better understanding of the reasoning. Just passing my classes will make me a very happy person. While three hours may seem like a lot of time to write and formulate a suitable answer, in actuality it is the shortest possible time to put together a well reasoned answer and expect it to be coherent. Most of the time I had to get straight to the point and sacrifice elements of my answer that would allow it to make sense. On an aside. Examsoft is the worst word processor based exam program on earth. For a guy with glasses, the standard font size is way to small and the output is different then what is shown on the screen. I prefer WYSIWYG word processors, and I wish our school would take the position of GWU where the students are allowed to use Word as long as they sign an honor oath. I handwrite all of my exams in undergrad, but the answer is still the same answer if one writes or types, and my handwriting qualifies for neanderthal chicken scratch. Anyway, I know what I need to do next semester. Update my outlines on a more frequent basis, get case briefs down to no more than 1/2 a page (or just book brief), and start looking at practice exams and hypos earlier in the semester. I'll also need to free up more time on the weekends to keep up on the reading and to review my notes, not to mention finding a few dedicated people to form a small study group. Polishing the resume and putting some money into a professional suit for the summer silly season is also on the do to list. All I can do is wait for my grades, and try to get out of town for a few days before I go insane. A few days in Vegas should help, or I may just take a day to go skiing instead. WDR
