One Legal Eagle Itching for takeoff In a previous post, I mentioned that I would eventually reveal the law school I was accepted into. After 11 applications, a 6 week Kaplan LSAT prep course, 5 letters of recommendation, Numerous law school visits, 1 grueling LSAT and plenty of indigestion. I was accepted to just one school. Western State College of Law in beautiful Fullerton, CA. I was hoping I would have been accepted to McGeorge. They have a great Governmental Affairs program and their location in Sacto would have allowed me to work on legislative issues near to my heart. I also would have been able to move to an area that is cheaper to live and easy to adjust to. I was disappointed by the constant requests for financial aid information, only to be denied. I was also hoping for some good words from UNLV. But alas it was not to be. (A transfer after 1L may be an option). Of course the one question (or more of a comment) I get from friends and family is, "Why Western, didn't they lose their accreditation?" I hate hearing it, but at this stage in the game beggars cannot be choosers. Yes, they did lose their accreditation but only for one year, they have since been reaccredited for a full five years. This will allow me to sit for the Bar in any state and pursue federal practice if I wish. Western also has a strong local reputation with many judges in the OC coming from Western, and it is the oldest law school in the County, surpassing Chapman in the number of graduates. Many Western grads are also active in state politics (another plus in my book.) It is also right across the street from my old haunt, CSUF, which will have a brand spanking new rec center soon. The advantages of being alumni are a discounted membership. Another factor is that my Dad is also Alumni from Western. I was hoping to attend another school, but I really don't want to waste another year. I am still on the waitlist for Whittier, but I doubt that I will hear anything from them. The rumor mill is that Whittier set a hard cap of 150 for the LSAT this year and will only waive it in extreme cases. Of course, I'm not willing to wait and alienate my co-workers with a sudden departure. This weekend marked one year since I finished my Degree. The master plan that I devised is in motion (while moving slower then I hoped). I miss school, not so much for the academics, but more for the social interactions that occurred when surrounded by those who share a common interest. Hopefully law school will fill this void and provide me with badly needed professional connections. Sometimes a slow drip can be more effective then a sudden chop, and everything goes off without a hitch. "Behold the Turtle. He makes progress only when he sticks his neck out." (James B. Conant)
