Having Lunch With The Mayor That must have grabbed your attention. Well I didn't actually have Lunch with Mayor Hahn, but Mike and I were in the restaurant at the same time he was taping a t.v. Interview for the L.A. mayoral race. We decided to leave the O.C. and get some culture in L.A. for the afternoon. We stopped at Schawb's on Sunset for lunch. The restaurant itself is like a "nouveau cafe," they had meatloaf, cobb salads, and apple pie, but the restaurant looks like a trendy nightclub. It needs a few months to work the kinks out however. My BLT had black spots on the lettuce, and the onion rings where a little greasy. But the corn batter and the thick pieces of onions made for a tasty side dish. The meatloaf was also really good. It had nice slivers of carrots and was nice and moist (Meatloaf can be messed up in a number of ways, being too dry is one of them). Next on the O.C. tourist agenda was a trip to the Arc Light cinema. This theater is the Angeleno alternative to Gruman's Chinese or the El Capitan, which have become glorified tourist traps. Tickets are somewhat expensive ($11) but considering it's location in Hollywood and it's crisp screens and clear sound it is a good place to catch a flick. Since Constatine wasn't playing yet, we decided to see Million Dollar Baby. The movie was really good as it had everything an Oscar contender should have, action, drama, and a little humor, all wrapped up in an all encompassing story. I was skeptical at first about a movie that focused on a female boxer, but after watching the film, the focus on a female boxer was just one part of the story. Eastwood's work in this film should garner him another Academy Award (Yea I know Copyright AMPAS so sue me) as the original screenplay and the work of two veteran actors made this film far more entertaining and thought provoking then the butt-numbing Aviator. Speaking of Oscar. After the film we decided to kick it around Hollywood and Highland, the site of this years Academy Awards. The bleachers are going up, but other then that, their wasn't a whole lot to see. Don't bother going to Starbuck's though. The official word is that they are going to be closed for the duration of the Awards. Just being a backyard tourist .....WDR
