The Will Randall Voters Guide After researching the many different issues on the California ballot, the following are my choices. President and Vice President of the United States: - John Kerry and John Edwards This is a no brainer, considering how our current President is lacking a brain of his own. Kerry's answer in the second debate really sealed my vote; "But I can't take what is an article of faith for me and legislate it for someone who doesn't share that article of faith, whether they be agnostic, atheist, Jew, Protestant, whatever. I can't do that." (Commission on Presidential Debates) I place a high value on the separation of church and state, and John Kerry values this too. Of course, this is not the only reason why I am voting for John Kerry. The war in Iraq, the failure of the current administration to capture OBL, the decline of the economy, and the future of the Supreme Court are all reasons for me selecting John Kerry. US Senate -Barbara Boxer Another easy selection. Bill Jones is in this race only because the Republican party cannot take the chance of selecting a more moderate candidate in the vein of Arnold, and risk rebukes from the far US Congress -Lewis Myers (only until I can fund my own candidacy) I subscribe to the ABM philosophy, Anybody But Miller. The only problem is that the GOP has faced only token opposition from the Democrats. Our current congressman won his seat in a special election (horrendously low turnouts) after the previous congressman, Jay Kim, was convicted of fraud. Miller is also sponsored by the National Homebuilders Association, since he was also a former contractor himself, in many ways it is like the fox guarding the henhouse. I remember the day when the hills of Yorba Linda were covered with green grass, now they are covered with homes and no trees to hide them. CA State Assembly, 60th District -Patrick John Martinez This is a straight partisan vote. I don't know a whole lot about this guy. CA State Senate, 33rd District -Randall Daugherty Randall is really a nice guy. I have worked with him at the OC Democratic Party and he has a vision for the County and the State that encompasses everybody. Unfortunately the ability to win a race depends on money and Randall was short on donations from the start. I really want to see Ackerman out of office, since he refused to met with me and the CSUF delegation when we visited the State Capital over Higher Education funding. Rancho Santiago Community College District, Trustee Area 1 -Again another party line vote. The OCDP is sponsoring Alfredo Amezcua and Brian Conley. Orange Unified School District -I'm up in the air on this one. Anaheim City Council -Lori Galloway Galloway gets my vote because of leadership with the Eli Home. The home is a refuge to battered women and unfortunately is receiving a lot of a grief from a selfish neighbor who is only concerned with his property values. I'm not sure on the second candidate yet. Now for the propositions 1A- Yes 59-Yes 60-Yes 60A- Yes 61- Yes 62- No I really don't like the idea of having a R v. R race in O.C. 63-Yes 64-No "Frivolous Lawsuits" sounds like a band name rather then a real issue. This is just another way of businesses ignoring their societal responsibilities. 65-Yes 66-Yes Three Strikes has done more harm then good in CA. The prison population has skyrocketed and many provisions of the Three Strikes law smack of due process violations. 67-No Good intentions, but bad way of going about it. Find another way to fund emergency services. 68-No I'm not wild about the expansion of casinos in CA. If I want to gamble, I'll go to Vegas. 69-No The use of a DNA database to keep track of those who are suspected of committing a felony smacks of a Due Process violation. No one should be a suspect after they have been wrongfully arrested. 70-No 70 would grant indian casinos exclusive 99 year contracts to be the only casinos in the state. No one really knows what the states fiscal condition is going to be like in 100 years, and the exclusivity deal is practically a "Golden Handcuff." 71-Yes Probably one of the few things the Governor and I agree on. The use of stem cells is needed to cure many of the genetic diseases that exsist ranging from Alzhimer's to Parkinson's. Stem cell research gives hope to those who have none. 72-Yes I call this the "Put up or Pay up" initiative. This bill would prevent employers from pulling out the health care rug from their employees, and would require companies such as Wal-Mart to "put up" private health insurance or pay for the services that the state would have to provide to those lacking coverage. It would stop the constant buck passing that Wal-Mart, Safeway, and McDonald's are engaging in to lower costs in order to increase profits. Measure A- Yes -My high school needed temporary classrooms, and the school was only 25 years old. A new High School is desperately needed for an area that is going to experience record growth.
