Debate Champ v. Debate Chump After the first debate the scoreboard stands at Kerry 1 Bush 0. John Kerry tonight showed all of the signs of a man who is prepared to lead. He quoted facts and figures, not talking points. Bush continued to exhibit his "ah shucks" mentality, punctuating his answers with "um's" and "ah's". In some ways the President exhibited some of the same problems Al Gore had in 2000 with the sighs. Some of the blogs (Daily Kos) are referring to the debate as a competition between an A student and a C student. I appreciated how Kerry was able to use a quote from George H.W. Bush's book about why he did not go past Basra in Desert Storm, as he believed that Iraq would be a hostile country to occupy. Iraq was hostile then and continues to be hostile now. In all a good first start for our guy, I think Bush might run to Crawford tomorrow in order to prepare for the second debate.
