Today is the first day of the rest of your life... My Dad left this note for me the morning after I graduated from Cal State Fullerton. Why does it feel like I'm not done? Four years of book, papers, exams, and good times with friends and I can't go more then one day without working on my next goal. I figure I have 125 days until the October LSAT, I am starting to get letters of recommendations, and I have plenty of material for a personal statement so I have plenty of time and none of the pressure that accompanies the law school admission process. As for the short list, Dream Schools University of Washington -I have always wanted to be a Dawg, but this alone does not get you into Law School. UC Davis -MLK, Jr Hall. The name itself invokes a noble cause to use the law as a tool to protect the defenseless. Also, I figure a NorCal/SoCal split between my undergrad and Grad schools would give me a little perspective. Cost is another factor, being a CA resident might save a few bucks. The distance from Sacramento allows me to be involved in state politics as well. UCLA -So close to being a Yale or Harvard of the West and so hard to get into. 4.0's and 180's get denied! Sure Bets Southwestern -Nice location in Downtown L.A. Strong program and good bar passage rates, but the cost of living in L.A. may make this prohibitive. UNLV Law School -My GPA is well above the average of the school, but I am still waiting on my LSAT. The cost of living in Vegas is fairly affordable and the commute and travel home isn't too bad. However, its low bar passage rate and relative newness may take this school off my list. Considering Arizona State University College of Law -Too much of a party school though. I may not be able to study between looking at the beautiful women and the parties. University of Oregon Law School -I might want to visit Oregon before I put this school on my list. UC Hastings -My CrimPro professor raves about this school. I am well above the average GPA, but the LSAT is the kicker. Also, the cost of living in San Francisco may force me to commute in from the East Bay. Loyola -I have a few contacts at this school, one alumni and one who knows the Dean, so I might have a chance. However, I know a classmate who has a high GPA and LSAT score and she was waitlisted.
