Can we have Money Please? So the Boy Scouts think they can make their cake and eat it too. Not a chance. Thank you SCOTUS for recognizing the discordant position the Scouts have backed themselves into. They said they wanted to be able to determine their membership, and their wish was granted. Now they have to deal with the consequences. No more state funds, no more united way money, no more cheap land deals, and no more lies about their membership policies. (BSA v. Wyman) The refusal by the Scouts to sign non-discrimination agreements with National Charities is only going to further weaken the organization in the long run. Thousands of boys and young men will be denied the universal values of scouting. From this Eagle Scout, the skills I learned in scouting have served me well in life and to deny them to others based on ideological differences is absurd! When a scout is kicked out for being Honest, I guess only 11 of the 12 points of the Scout Law really mean anything. Hypocrisy at its finest. To counter the numerous half-truths present on their new legal defense website www.bsalegal.org, I will be correcting the falsehoods present on the site. The first of which being the requirement for the Bear badge, "practice your religion as your parents have taught you" Where in that sentence does it say anything about the National Organization determining how a kid practices his religous beliefs. No where. I doubt if kids truly understand their religous beliefs anyway. And in refering to the requirement for the scout badge. The requirement to say grace was added during the nineties during Randall v. BSA, Orange County Council, INC. The scouts also added the Family Life Merit badge as a way to up the Merit Badge requirement for the Eagle Scout Rank. They even went so far as to deny my board of review, eventhough I met all of the necessary requirements for the rank. A court order allowed the Board of Review to proceed. Even then the Scouts attempted to modify the rules in the middle of the game, by reading statements, calling attorneys, and bringing in an extra scouting official. (I passed unanimously) As the organization continues to shift further away from community service to ideological indoctrination, millions of youth will be denied the benefits. What happened to being Friendly, Helpful, and Trustworthy? "We have just begun to fight...." WDR
