Campus Politics- Welcome to the Swamp! Yes, folks it's hot, it's sticky, and stinks like you woundn't believe but political activism has finally taken root at Cal State Fullerton. Campus Greens had an event today to mark the one year anniversary of the War in Iraq. A table in the Quad (Primo location), and chalk outlines to represent those killed. College Republicans had a table near the Titan Shops, along with the prerequsite American Flag prop, a handout saying why they are Republicans (I think it said "To pay less, and work more"), and issues of everyones favorite new propaganda rag, "Moxie". Let's just say it won't be winning any awards for objectivity. And then we get to us, The lowly College Democrats. Did we have Shirts? Nope. Did we have flyers? Stock on hand. Did we have a clue? (I plead the fifth). Were we even on message? Yes, If that included hooking up for a Friday Night. Images of the CNN special about the Dean Campaign began to flash through my head. Or more specifically 101 ways how NOT to run a campaign. Rule #1- Don't ignore the Boss. Rule #2- The Democratic message is your message. Know it, Learn it, Love it. Rule #3- The press make or break you. As much as they say they are objective. Subjectivity starts to creep into stories when they have lousy food and bad information. Rule #4- Get a F***ing clue! (Hey I cussed, once the FCC fine killed me!) Rule #5- Karl Rove= Bad, James Carville=Good (Paul Begala and Donna Brazile can be considered diciples), Rule #6- The party has so many diverse ideologies that someone is always going to be offended. You can never eliminate it, but you can minimize it by allowing open discussion. Mediate don't moderate. Rule #7 Polls are like the Weather. Sometimes the forecaster will get it wrong and your nice day at the beach is canceled. Ask the right questions and the results change, not the people. Rule#8- The Presidency is not everything, it is the ONLY THING. The winner ranks somewhere between the Pope and God, he can tell you what to do, or he can Nuke your ass back to the dawn of time. (Screw the Middle East, where was that Red Button again?) Rule#9- Wartime Presidents are only good when they are fighting a war. Anybody noticed the economy lately? Rule #10- Intelligence works only if it is intelligent. (If anybody says they are from the CIA, FBI, KGB tell em to get lost, unless they can prove Iraq had WMD's) Rule #11- If you thought I was going to write 101 rules, I either have too much time, or your still interested, shall I continue? Rule #12- Know your enemy. I mean inside and out, backwards and forwards (and if female even better). Know everything, but play dumb. A lapse in security, means a chance of opportunity. Rule#13- The old addage, "Excuses are like assholes, everybody has one and they all stink." If you mess up, fess up. Cleaning it up makes you look guilty from the start. Rule #14- Stay above the fray. It's only called dodging if you duck. Rule #15- A person who is unsure about what they want to do but wants to help, is one step away from becoming your next campaign manager. Fresh legs keeps staff from becoming jilted and bring in new ideas. Rule #16- Anybody who says they are a Green party member is either lying, or votes Republican. It might as well be considered a wing of the Republican party, Getting Republicans Elected Every November (Green. Get it?) (no offense to my Green friends) Rule#17- $200 Million= 200 million opportunities for mistakes. The less cash there is in a campaign, the more creativity is allowed to flouish. More Rules will be posted as Campaign 2004 slogs its way through the swamp. In Conclusion Ladies and Gentlemen, To quote Lee Greenwood, "I'm Proud to be an American where at least I know I'm Free"....Unfortunately "free" went out the window, along with the Constitution. Vote Democrat in November. For the future of the free world depends on it.
