From the "Over My Dead Body" file, A group here in California is attempting to gather enough signatures to place a referendum on the ballot concerning the use of the Bible as a textbook. OVER MY DEAD BODY!!! A few reasons 1. If we allow the Bible, what about the Koran, or maybe books by L. Ron Hubbard? 2. Religion has no place in public schools, even if the Bible is to be used for its "aesthetic purpose", allowing the Bible in schools gives Christianity a state recognized status. 3. What about students who are not Christians and do not believe in a god or gods? (Like myself) In all, this concept is a sneaky way to get around the controversy of church-state seperation and is running off the heels of the gubernatorial recall. Even if it passes, it will be tied up in the courts for years. WDR
