"They're Coming to Get You....." Five days left in the semester and I still have another paper to write! Well it's not too bad, it's on Night of the Living Dead and whether or not the film represents an oppositional or hegemonic viewpont. I was, at first, considering writting on the oppositional position, but the second half of the film threw that idea right on out the window. The hegemonic viewpoint is the obvious choice for a few reasons. 1. The hero dies in the end. 2. The Zombies and the police have no distinguishing features, or clear distinction. 3. There is no clear agreement among authority figures about the cause of the undead menace. 4. The media is the primary source of information, not an observation of the conditions outside of the house. and 5. The movie represents a complete change in the horor film structure when compared to Psycho and other previous films. This paper should not be that bad to write, but I do have other exams to study for. So wish me luck and remember "a blow to the head will kill the bastards." .....WDR
