This is the song that never ends... It's kinda creepy when you feel like high school has never ended. During my break today I talked to a HS class mate. Three more people from my HS also work there. Another 2 work a few stores over, and I am always running into one HS classmate or another at the University or around town. I remember a teacher telling me about how "ten year reunions are a joke..." People are have either just graduated from College and are stuck in medial jobs paying off debts, or the lucky ones have not yet made it big career wise. A couple more classmates of mine have maintained a presence on the web through Blogs. They are interesting to read as they reflect the post HS reality many people face today. Internships are great for job experience and resume building but they don't pay the bills (some pay, most don't). I would move to Washington DC in a heartbeat if an internship position opened up on the Hill, but the lack of pay and the loss of my only viable lodging option (It was in a great location) put my DC plans on hold. Personally, I enjoy working for a cause rather then for a buck. I enjoy 16 hour days when progress is being made and tomorrow is different then yesterday. If the job, in a figurative sense, entails driving uphill through heavy traffic then sign me up. Jobs are great. They pay the bills and provide us with experiences. While the current administration spouts about how many jobs it has created, it fails to adhere to the mantra that made Japanese automobiles a force to reckon with in America. It's quality not quantity! How can America progress when educated persons are stuck asking "Would you like frys with that?" Jobs need to be meaningful to people, they must be able to feed the soul along with the stomach. For the love of god ,-) The service sector is not the future of america!!! This is the place where I try to tie together my two main thoughts. Many of my classmates (including myself) share a feeling of the realworld blues. We know what we want to do in the long term, but short term conditions are leaving us stuck in park. My brother is a great example of this, on one hand he wants to focus on a career and in another he wants to earn a paycheck. The current market is leaving students with slim pickings. Sorry about the rant here, but these are a couple of thoughts that were running through my mind at work tonight (Yea, i know i said my job entails no thinking but I am alwyas thinking about something). Way Late....WDR
